It sounds like you wired the running light circuit to the brighter stop/turn circuits of your trailer wiring and the stop turn circuit to the dimmer running light circuits.

For the 4-way, I would recommend using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and testing the wires before they reach the connector. This will rule out the connector itself as being bad.

It is odd that the hand held controller in the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # TK94FR is blowing fuses. Typically this will just plug in and you are good to go. If this is happening consistently, however, I may have a different solution for you as I do not recommend changing the vehicle fuses.

The first thing I would check on the Explorer are the fuses (and relays) associated with its trailer wiring. I reviewed an online owner's manual but no information about the fuse box (power distribution box) is included so I suggest that you check the lid on the fuse box. Usually these will have a legend that tells you which fuses are related to towing functions. Check to make sure nothing has caused one of these to blow. A short in the trailer wiring could cause a fuse to blow.

The noise you hear will be a result of how tight you have the Friction Sway Control, # 83660. The tighter it is, the more resistance there is which can lead to a lot of noise depending on how much force is being applied to it.

Most modern brake controllers should not output any current on that red wire that attaches to the brake stoplight switch. There are a few of the older time-delayed controllers that would feed back some voltage so that the vehicle brake lamps would illuminate when the override switch was activated.

This sounds like a short circuit at the trailer connector. Check the vehicle and trailer side connectors for dirt and corrosion inside of the connectors and on the backs were the wires connect. Make sure they are good and clean before reconnecting them.

I was able to check your order and you did get the Draw-Tite # 75112 but sometimes hitches can get slightly bent during shipping. As long as the hitch is only slightly bent, this can be fixed by bending the hitch back into place; if yours isn't lining up I can almost guarantee that is what happened. Some people will use open steps for leverage, vices and even car jacks to apply controlled force to bend the hitch back.

If you have rusted running boards, one labor-intensive option is to remove the bars and sand them until the rust comes off then polish the steel. However, it is still possible that the rust will return. It is especially difficult to stop rusting after it begins. If your brackets are rusted through, you will need to replace the brackets.
